How long lash extensions last and how often to refresh them

A single lash extension can hold for 60–90 days, but the fullness of the whole set lasts only 2–3 weeks. That one gap holds the entire answer to the question I hear right after price: "how long does it last?". Below I explain where the gap comes from, what retention depends on, and how often it's really worth booking your next visit, with no marketing promises.

What "lasting" actually means

You have to separate two things here. A single extension stays on your natural lash until that lash sheds, and a natural lash lives roughly 60–90 days. Sounds long, right? But here's the catch: your lashes don't all shed at once, just a few a day, each in its own time.

That's why the set itself looks fully "dense" for less time than a single lash lives. The full effect holds for about 2–3 weeks, and then it slowly thins. That's not a flaw in the adhesive or in your aftercare, it's simply biology.

How often to book your next visit

Most of my clients refresh the set every 4–6 weeks. That's the point where the effect is noticeably lighter, but the lashes still look tidy. If you want a constant, "full" look, aim closer to four weeks; if you like the effect fading out naturally, you can easily wait until six.

Why I work with full sets, not frequent top-ups

Here I'll tell you plainly how I do it in my studio. Instead of adding a few lashes every two weeks, I'd rather do a fresh, full application every 4–6 weeks. There are two reasons, both for your benefit. First, at every visit I look at the condition of your natural lashes and know I'm working on a healthy base. Second, you get an even, fresh result, not a mix of older and newer lashes that start to look scattered over time. To me, that's simply the more honest approach.

What genuinely affects retention

Aftercare matters most, and this is where you have the biggest influence. Oil, friction, sleeping face-down into the pillow and skipping lash washing can cut the life of a set by a week or two. I've gathered the whole routine that genuinely extends the effect in the lash aftercare guide.

The second thing is your natural lash cycle, which you can't control. If your lashes grow and turn over quickly, the set will thin a little faster, and that's completely normal. Importantly, the method itself doesn't change retention. Classic, volume and mega last similarly, so choose them for the look you like, not for "what survives longest". If you're unsure about the method, the classic, volume or mega guide will help.

When it's better to remove than to stretch it out

If there's really little left and the set is bothering you, don't force more lashes on and don't try to remove it yourself. Painless removal with a cream remover costs 60 PLN and leaves your natural lashes untouched. You can also simply book a fresh full application.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do lash extensions really last?
A single extension lasts until its natural lash sheds, which is roughly 60–90 days. But the full effect holds for less, around 2–3 weeks, because lashes shed gradually. That's why most clients refresh the set every 4–6 weeks.
Do you do refills or only full sets?
I work with full applications every 4–6 weeks, not frequent top-ups every two weeks. That way I assess the condition of your natural lashes at every visit and give you an even, fresh result, rather than a layer of old and new lashes at once.
Why do lashes shed unevenly?
Because your natural lashes are in different growth phases and each sheds in its own time. The most common extra cause is sleeping face-down into the pillow, which pulls out fans on one side.
Does one method last longer?
No, retention is similar across classic, volume and mega. How long it stays looking good is decided mostly by aftercare and your natural lash cycle, not by the method you choose.
